How Gender Selection Works at IMI

Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT-A)

During IVF, embryos are cultured for five days. A few cells from each blastocyst are analyzed to determine chromosomal makeup—including the sex chromosomes (XX or XY). Only healthy embryos of the desired gender are selected for transfer.

Embryo Transfer

Once testing and sorting are complete, a single chromosomally normal embryo of the chosen gender is transferred into the uterus for implantation.

MicroSort® Sperm Separation

Before fertilization, sperm samples can be sorted based on DNA content using flow cytometry. This method increases the probability of selecting X-bearing sperm (for a girl) or Y-bearing sperm (for a boy) before insemination or IVF.
