Genetic Testing Mexico

Genetic Testing Mexico

At Instituto Mexicano de Infertilidad (IMI), your journey to parenthood is supported by the latest breakthroughs in reproductive genetics. Our genetic testing (PGT) programs help identify chromosomally normal embryos and reduce risks of miscarriage, failed implantation, and inherited diseases—giving every family the best chance for a healthy baby.

Using next-generation sequencing (NGS) and microarray technology, IMI’s lab team performs Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT-A, PGT-M, and PGT-SR) on embryos created through IVF to ensure the safest and most successful outcomes for patients worldwide.

Benefits of Genetic Testing

  • 🧬 Higher IVF success rates – transfers focus on healthy embryos only.
  • 💛 Reduced miscarriage risk – eliminates embryos with genetic issues.
  • 👶 Healthier pregnancies – prevents many chromosomal disorders.
  • 💸 Cost savings – fewer failed transfers and repeated cycles.
  • 🌎 Confidence for international patients – transparent genetic reports.

Advanced Embryo Screening for Healthier Pregnancies

What Is Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)?

PGT is a form of advanced embryo analysis performed during IVF before embryo transfer. It identifies chromosomal or genetic abnormalities in embryos, allowing specialists to select only the healthiest for transfer.

Types of PGT performed at IMI:

Type

Purpose

Detects

Ideal For

PGT-A

Aneuploidy screening

Abnormal chromosome counts

Women over 35, recurrent IVF failure, miscarriage history

PGT-M

Monogenic disease testing

Single-gene disorders (e.g., cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy)

Couples with known genetic conditions

PGT-SR

Structural rearrangement

Translocations, deletions, inversions

Patients with abnormal karyotypes

Each method enhances embryo selection accuracy, improves implantation rates, and significantly lowers miscarriage risk.

How Genetic Testing Works

1
IVF and Embryo Culture
Eggs are retrieved and fertilized using ICSI. Embryos grow in culture for five days until they reach the blastocyst stage.
2
Embryo Biopsy
A few trophectoderm cells (outer layer of the embryo) are carefully removed without harming development.
3
DNA Analysis
The cells are analyzed in IMI’s molecular genetics lab using NGS to identify chromosomal count and structure.
4
Embryo Selection
Only chromosomally normal embryos are chosen for transfer or freezing.

PGT-A for Family Balancing

In addition to medical uses, PGT-A can identify the embryo’s sex chromosomes (XX or XY). Families pursuing gender selection or family balancing benefit from the same testing accuracy that ensures chromosomal health.

PGT can be combined with any IVF cycle at IMI, including:

  • IVF Over 40
  • Egg Donation
  • Tandem IVF
  • Mini IVF
  • IVF with Donor Sperm

Who Should Consider PGT?

  • Women over 35 (higher risk of aneuploidy).
  • Couples with recurrent pregnancy loss.
  • Patients with two or more failed IVF cycles.
  • Carriers of genetic diseases (PGT-M).
  • Individuals with chromosomal translocations (PGT-SR).
  • Families pursuing donor egg or sperm cycles.

Genetic Testing Costs in Mexico

Test

Average Cost (USD)

PGT-A (per embryo)

$250 – $350

PGT-M / PGT-SR (per case)

$1 500 – $2 500

IVF + PGT Package

$7 000 – $9 000

IMI’s costs are significantly lower than those in the U.S. while maintaining identical lab technology and certification standards.

Success Rates

IMI patients using PGT-A experience:

  • Up to 70–80 % pregnancy success rate per transfer.
  • Reduced miscarriage risk from 25 % → 5–10 %.
  • Lower risk of genetic disease transmission for PGT-M families.

FAQ’s about the Service

Q1. Is genetic testing safe for embryos?
Yes. IMI uses non-destructive biopsy and advanced culture techniques ensuring embryo viability.
Q2. Can I do PGT with donor eggs or sperm?
Absolutely. PGT-A works for all IVF cycles, including donor gametes.
Q3. Does PGT increase pregnancy chances?
Yes. It can enrich the sperm sample before fertilization to increase gender-specific embryo chances.
Q4. How long do results take?
Typically 7–10 days after embryo biopsy.
Q5. Does PGT guarantee a healthy baby?
It reduces genetic risk but cannot eliminate all possibilities—ongoing prenatal care is still essential.
