What Is Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)?

PGT is a form of advanced embryo analysis performed during IVF before embryo transfer. It identifies chromosomal or genetic abnormalities in embryos, allowing specialists to select only the healthiest for transfer.

How Genetic Testing Works

IVF and Embryo Culture

Eggs are retrieved and fertilized using ICSI. Embryos grow in culture for five days until they reach the blastocyst stage.

Embryo Biopsy

A few trophectoderm cells (outer layer of the embryo) are carefully removed without harming development.

DNA Analysis

The cells are analyzed in IMI’s molecular genetics lab using NGS to identify chromosomal count and structure.

Embryo Selection

Only chromosomally normal embryos are chosen for transfer or freezing.
